A straight hairline cuts horizontally across your forehead without any changes in direction. This type of hairline tends to give a face an angular or square appearance. 

You might associate this hairline type with youth, and especially with young men. While teenagers might have a straight hairline, there's a good chance it will shift or recede as they approach their 30s.

Play up a straight hairline with a well-coiffed buzzcut or slicked-back style. Or you can choose to soften this hairline with some wispy bangs or layers.

Receding Hairline

Among men's hairline types, a receding hairline can be the most worrisome. Especially if you previously had a straight hairline with lush locks, it can be challenging to deal with hair loss. When you notice hair loss around your temples that begins to form an M shape, it could be time to take action.

Widow's Peak Hairline

A widow's peak hairline creates a unique V-shape edge that lets it stand out from the rest. The bottom point of the V typically sits at the middle of the hairline, with sharp lines moving back on either side. Celebrities like Marilyn Monroe and Gary Cooper featured this type of hairline as a unique part of their look. 

You can show off this striking hairline by pulling or smoothing back your hair. While the hairline looks very dramatic, it can be an indication that future hair loss is on the horizon for some. This is particularly true if the widow's peak shape becomes more pronounced over time. 

The more severe the V shape, the more hair loss is happening. Some men don't exhibit this hairline until they reach maturity and experience hair loss on their temples.
