Did you know that a typical person can lose 100 hairs each day? If you're shedding more than that, you might want to know if your hairline's part of the problem. After all, it's not uncommon to experience a receding hairline as you age.

Read on to learn about the different hairline types in men and women!

Low Hairline

With a low hairline, your hairline sits closer to your eyes than most other hairline types do. This means that your forehead may appear to be small and rectangular.

While this can pose some styling challenges, it also could set you up well for future hair loss. Since your hairline may mature or recede as you age anyway, it's not bad to begin with a low hairline. The recession won't look as dramatic.

When it comes to women's hairline types, the low hairline means you'll want to get creative with hairstyling. Pulling your hair up or going with a short and curly look are easy ways to help extend your forehead. Ultimately, your best bet is to pursue a style that helps create more height or volume.

High Hairline

Some people are genetically prone to higher hairlines. As the name suggests, these hairlines sit higher, creating the appearance of a larger forehead.

In some instances, a high hairline could be an indication of future hair loss. And if you have a family history of hair loss, you may need to budget for treatment to combat it.

But in many other instances, a high hairline is just a natural occurrence that doesn't lead to hair loss. Those with a high hairline can go with a side part, short pixie cut, or messy bangs to soften the size of their forehead.

Middle Hairline

A middle hairline is considered to be one of the more desirable hairline types. It's the perfect compromise between a low and high hairline. In other words, the forehead doesn't appear too large or too small.

When considering women's hairline types, most hairstyles will look good with a middle hairline, too. That's because your face will appear more open and rounded. You can slick back your hair for a clean and polished look, or grow your hair out with some wavy and loose locks.

Straight Hairline

A straight hairline cuts horizontally across your forehead without any changes in direction. This type of hairline tends to give a face an angular or square appearance.

You might associate this hairline type with youth, and especially with young men. While teenagers might have a straight hairline, there's a good chance it will shift or recede as they approach their 30s.

Play up a straight hairline with a well-coiffed buzzcut or slicked-back style. Or you can choose to soften this hairline with some wispy bangs or layers.

Receding Hairline

Among men's hairline types, a receding hairline can be the most worrisome. Especially if you previously had a straight hairline with lush locks, it can be challenging to deal with hair loss. When you notice hair loss around your temples that begins to form an M shape, it could be time to take action.

Designing a new hairline can be a positive solution if you're unhappy with the direction of your hairline. You'll need to take some steps as part of a pre-care plan before treatment, as well as following the treatment. But the effort is worth it to arrive at a natural-looking hairline that gives you more confidence.

And if you have a receding hairline, you might be able to blame genetics. Some people are predisposed toward hair loss. Other factors, including, a poor diet and stress, can contribute to hair loss, as well.

Rounded Hairline

With a rounded hairline, your hairline with arch upward at the peak of your forehead. At the temples, your hairline will slope downward to create the appearance of an upside-down U shape.

In some cases, the rounded hairline may be considered one of the receding hairline types to watch out for. But many people naturally have this hairline. If a rounded hairline seems too uneven to your eyes, opt for bangs or a side part.

Widow's Peak Hairline

A widow's peak hairline creates a unique V-shape edge that lets it stand out from the rest. The bottom point of the V typically sits at the middle of the hairline, with sharp lines moving back on either side. Celebrities like Marilyn Monroe and Gary Cooper featured this type of hairline as a unique part of their look.

You can show off this striking hairline by pulling or smoothing back your hair. While the hairline looks very dramatic, it can be an indication that future hair loss is on the horizon for some. This is particularly true if the widow's peak shape becomes more pronounced over time.

The more severe the V shape, the more hair loss is happening. Some men don't exhibit this hairline until they reach maturity and experience hair loss on their temples.
